SUMMARY:Upper Jarvis Neighbourhood - Community Consultation
DESCRIPTION:In the Upper Jarvis Neighbourhood area immediately to our south\, several tall tower development applications are in progress. This will affect BENA members in many ways\, for example ongoing construction and traffic congestion. \nThe City is undertaking a study of the neighbourhoods between Bloor Street to the north\, Wellesley street the south\, Church Street to the west\, and Sherbourne Street to the east.   The purpose of the study is to help evaluate these proposed developments and to revise the existing planning framework to help assess future development applications. \nThe City is hosting a virtual information session at 6:00 pm on Wednesday March 1\, 2023\, for those who wish to learn more about the this study and to participate in a meeting to help identify what spaces and attributes of the area are valued and what conditions could be improved. \nCity Notice can be found here.

DESCRIPTION:Full Notice: 625 Church Street – CCM Notice \nCity Planning Division has received an application to amend the Zoning By-law to permit a 59-storey\nmixed use building with an overall height of 201.9 metres (inclusive of mechanical equipment)\ncontaining 10\,660 square metres of office and retail uses and 651 dwelling units. The design\nproposes to retain the west elevation of the existing 6-storey building in its entirety\, as well as a\nportion of the north and south elevations. New landscaped spaces and a pedestrian connection\nbetween Charles Street East and Hayden Street are proposed. The proposed development would\nhave a total gross floor area of 56\,499 square metres\, which would result in a Floor Space Index of\n18.2 times the area of the lands. SUMMARY:Cycle Ribbon Cutting Announcement
DESCRIPTION:BENA has advocated for cycling lanes on Bloor Street East to connect from Sherbourne to those on Bloor Street West for a umber of years. The issue of safe and separated passage of pedestrians and cyclists along this strip has been an issue raised repeatedly at our meetings\, including our Annual General Meetings. \nBENA has always been an advocate for the safe passage of all forms of transportation on our shared streets and sidewalks. Street sharrow markings and a redesign of our streetscape\, including cycling lanes\, has long been a community goal that has been difficult to realize. Councillor Wong-Tam has been steadfast in her support of these\, in spite of the regular cancellation and their delay. But their time has come! We are excited to finally have the temporary cycling lanes and are excited to celebrate them with you\, and the Councillors that represent our catchment area who have been instrumental in their realization. \nAlthough these lanes are temporary\, the expectation is that they will become permanent when Bloor Street East is rebuilt in a few years.
